Calculation

Basis weight is the weight in pounds of 500 sheets at the category basis size; GSM is grams per square meter.

Use the real production condition.

If a printer specifies final trim size, bleed, paper category, page yield or a required margin, use that value rather than a convenient round number. Small input differences can matter when a print run is repeated hundreds or thousands of times.

How to use this tool

  1. Measure or verify the source.Use the actual file dimensions, paper size, quantity, rated yield, job cost or provider specification.
  2. Enter one consistent set of units.Do not mix inches and millimeters or gross and net costs unless the field explicitly converts them.
  3. Read the normalized result.Focus on the production value—such as PPI, cost/page, sheets required, full artwork size or gross margin.
  4. Verify before production.Where a printer, marketplace or machine controls the specification, confirm the current requirement before committing materials.

Limitations

Conversions are mathematical equivalences; commercial stock names and manufacturer tolerances can differ.

A mathematically correct result can still be unsuitable if the production process has constraints the calculator cannot observe, such as grain direction, printer margins, ICC profiles, finishing tolerances, maintenance state or provider-specific file checks.
