What the result is useful for

Use the simplified ratio to match frames, print formats, screens and crop targets; use the proportional resize output when one dimension must change without stretching the artwork.

How the calculation works

The simplified ratio is obtained from width:height while the decimal ratio is width ÷ height; proportional resizing keeps that ratio unchanged.

What this calculator cannot know

The math can describe pixels, PPI and geometry, but it cannot judge subject detail, sharpening, resampling quality, printer process, media or viewing distance. Use the output provider’s requirement when one exists.
