Finishing reality check

Paper bulk, grain and equipment can change the geometry

Booklet creep, fold compensation and spine thickness are physical-production estimates. Whenever a fold, bind, die or laminator controls the finished piece, record the actual stock caliper and the equipment/vendor specification rather than converting GSM to thickness by assumption.

What the result is useful for

This helps document a punch pattern before artwork or tab content is placed too close to the binding edge.

How the calculation works

Usable length = bind edge − 2 × minimum end clearance. The tool fits the largest whole number of intervals at the requested pitch, then redistributes the centers evenly within the usable length.

What this calculator cannot know

Hole shape, pitch family, punch disengagement, edge margin and spine diameter are equipment-specific. Use the punch/binding manufacturer setup as final authority.
