Finishing reality check

Paper bulk, grain and equipment can change the geometry

Booklet creep, fold compensation and spine thickness are physical-production estimates. Whenever a fold, bind, die or laminator controls the finished piece, record the actual stock caliper and the equipment/vendor specification rather than converting GSM to thickness by assumption.

What the result is useful for

Useful for rough mailing, carton, fulfillment and handling estimates.

How the calculation works

Interior mass = leaf count × trim area × interior GSM. Cover mass = cover sheet area × cover GSM. The result adds both paper components.

What this calculator cannot know

Binding adhesive, laminate, boards, endsheets, ink and packaging add weight. Hardcover construction needs more components than this paper-only estimate.
