Finishing reality check

Paper bulk, grain and equipment can change the geometry

Booklet creep, fold compensation and spine thickness are physical-production estimates. Whenever a fold, bind, die or laminator controls the finished piece, record the actual stock caliper and the equipment/vendor specification rather than converting GSM to thickness by assumption.

What the result is useful for

Paper manufacturers commonly recommend folding/binding with the grain for cleaner finishing and reduced stress; documenting the direction before imposition can prevent an avoidable production conflict.

How the calculation works

The check compares the selected grain axis with the selected primary fold/binding axis.

What this calculator cannot know

Some stocks and products behave differently. Pretest the actual paper and follow the paper/finishing equipment guidance, especially for heavy or unusual substrates.
