Finishing reality check

Paper bulk, grain and equipment can change the geometry

Booklet creep, fold compensation and spine thickness are physical-production estimates. Whenever a fold, bind, die or laminator controls the finished piece, record the actual stock caliper and the equipment/vendor specification rather than converting GSM to thickness by assumption.

What the result is useful for

A compensated layout helps prevent a tucked panel from colliding or buckling when the brochure wraps around itself.

How the calculation works

The innermost panel is reduced by the entered compensation; the remaining width is distributed across the other panels, then cumulative widths become score positions.

What this calculator cannot know

Actual fold compensation depends on stock caliper, grain, fold sequence and equipment. Use the finishing provider’s specification and proof the fold.
